NASCAR and FX are teaming up for an eight-episode reality series set to premiere in May. At least nine of the circuit's finest drivers have signed on to give the cable network unprecedented access to their lives.

"NASCAR: Drivers Unscripted" (as the show is tentatively called), is executive produced by Tony Krantz ("24") and Scott Messick ("Survivor") of Flame Television.

"With NASCAR as our partner, we have unlimited access and our plan is to make this series as cinematic as possible," Krantz says. "The world of NASCAR is colorful, explosive and amazingly intense. If we can capture the emotion of its drivers, we will present a picture to America that it is hungry for. We could be more excited about this great opportunity."

Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Kevin Harvick, Jeremy Mayfield, Jamie McMurray, Casey Mears, Tony Raines, Brian Vickers, Kenny Wallace and Rusty Wallace will be recurring characters, as the series looks at the drivers, their families and teams and the races. Mostly, though, "Drivers Unscripted" promises access to their lives away from the track.

"NASCAR drivers are fearless, larger-than-life stars who participate in a high-risk sport," FX President and CEO Peter Liguori notes. "This series aims to explore the dramatic, sometimes funny and entertaining day-to-day lives of these colorful personalities."
